Summary
The Fentress Group's Community Outreach Committee had a very successful year in 2006. We are well on our way to making 2007 an outstanding year as well. We will be supporting the local Junior Achievement Organization in April by participating in a Bowl-A-Thon and we're gearing up for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in May.
FLASHBACK OF 2006
The Susan Komen Race for the Cure
On Saturday May 20th a few of us took part in one of the largest series of 5K run/fitness walks in the world. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation held the Race for the Cure in the heart of downtown Columbus. This year there was an outstanding turnout of participants which broke attendance records from all previous years. We are very much looking forward to participating again this spring.
Mid Ohio Food Bank
This past November the Fentress Group volunteered at the Mid Ohio Food Bank. While the Food Bank has many projects for the community to participate, we were a part of food repackaging. On this project we sorted and boxed food into predetermined sizes for senior citizens in the community. TFG plans to make this an annual event!
The Better Way Ministries
December was a very busy month, much of it was spent gathering presents for those less fortunate in the Columbus Area. We worked closely with The Better Way Ministries which host a Christmas Party every year to distribute all donated gifts to a couple hundred recipients right in downtown Columbus.
Toys For Tots
We took donations and a group of the Fentress Group's staff set out to the store and got to toy shop! We donated over $300 worth of toys to the local Firefighter Station for the Toys for Tots Program.
Trick or Treat!
Our Halloween Party this year was filled with yummy holiday treats and plenty of cornhole. We had some very creative costumes at our party this year. Prizes for the winners included Columbus Blue Jackets Tickets and an I-pod. Also, money raised from the contest was donated to the Susan G. Kohman Foundation.
Christmas Caroling
A group of employees tested their singing voices by caroling at a local retirement center. They stayed after the singing was over and gave out candy and mingled with the residents.
Light the Night
We did a lot of preparation for the Light the Night activity working side by side with The Woda Group, LLC, gathering donations for the walk/run. Unfortunately this years event was canceled because of bad weather conditions. We were still able to donate all the money that the Fentress Group and The Woda Group were able to collect. The contributions went toward cancer research.
